Dark Winds: Book Two of the Shadow’s Fire Trilogy (Volume 1)

Dark Winds, the second book in the Shadow’s Fire Trilogy by Christopher Patterson was a quickly paced and exciting adventure! I read a few other books between the first book and the second and I think that may have been a mistake. There wasn’t much (aka – none) catch up at the start of book two. You are dropped right where the first book left off.

As with the first book, the writing was fresh and fast paced. I really enjoyed the smaller chapter lengths, which spurred me to read “one more chapter” every night. This happened with the first book too! Fantasy elements are front and center in book two, with trolls and magical weapons making prominent appearances. They fit in well with the story, however. Erik, our main character, is on a path to become a hero and a leader. This book makes that perfectly clear, which may irk some readers. For me, it’s similar to my series so I don’t find it off-putting at all.

I plan to continue on with this series and not take a break this time. I have the third book all lined up and ready to go!
